I had been working on a celtic angel for a while, and then switched over to a piece of fanart for Peta's Terinu comic. When I returned to the angel, it struck me that Varn (the bad guy) in the comic doesn't see himself as a bad guy, but rather as the savior or parent of lesser races. So the angel sort of evolved into Varn's self image as the benevolent saint.

Very interesting piece! I like the sort of parchment look this has... and as always, the Celtic designs are spectacular.

Whoa! That's amazing how you've incorperated a Si Fi character like Varn into a Celtic design and made him look like he belongs. I can imagine a relief carving or tapestry made to the design. You've captured him beautifully, both in his poise and the way he sees himself. I love the robes! I particularly like the thicker pen work you've outlined him with... it gives a finished feel to the uniform thin detail pen lines. And of course you're celtic designs floor me. I don't have the patience to tackle something so disciplined and precise.

It was done with the express purpose of being like a bas relief or gospel page. Still a bit cartoony, but I bit into the mythology. Wouldn't the Farin have ancient texts or something along those lines? Anyway, you had also said you enjoyed different art styles, and I felt I needed to incorporate something that I knew semi-well. I'm really really glad you like it.
